April’s Critical Mass was the first of the year to be completed in daylight. There was a reasonable crowd, given the bank holiday weekend and slightly overcast weather. But it stayed dry and we had soundsystems, so all was well. If anything, I would have been more than happy to do a few more laps.
As usual, we left St Peter’s Square and headed down Lloyd Street and turned onto Albert Square. Once out of the queue of traffic, we took a left onto John Dalton Street and another left onto Deansgate.
We headed down Deansgate until we reached Great Bridgewater Street, where we took a left and carried on through the tunnels under Manchester Central. We continued along Great Bridgewater Street and onto Portland Street.
We took a left off Portland Street and headed into Chinatown down Nicholas Street. We went over the Metrolink tracks on Mosley Street and turned right onto Fountain Street. We then headed for Piccadilly along New York Street.
Back on Portland Street, we passed through Piccadilly Gardens and headed for the Northern Quarter. We took a route down Newton Street, Stevenson Square and Thomas Street.
On High Street, we did the usual u-turn at the lights and headed for Shudehill. We took a left at the lights, then right along Dantzic Street, where we continued until we reached the Co-op building at One Angel Square, where the ride finished.
