Netherlands 17

At the end of May, we made what seems to be our annual visit to The Netherlands. On top of our usual trip to Duinrell, we arranged to spend a week in Utrecht in an Airbnb apartment. Continue reading “Netherlands 17”

Netherlands 17: The route to Leiden

In my view, no stay at Duinrell is complete without a trip to Leiden. We’ve been there plenty of times and I’ve covered the route previously in 2015. Though it deserves another post, as there’s changes on the way and we chose a different route on the way back. Continue reading “Netherlands 17: The route to Leiden”

Netherlands 17: The route to Stoomtrein Katwijk Leiden

During our 2017 stay at Duinrell, we arranged a visit Stoomtrein Katwijk Leiden. We’ve been to Stoomtrein Katwijk Leiden once before and had a great time. This time, we were going with the other families we were staying with at Duinrell. Continue reading “Netherlands 17: The route to Stoomtrein Katwijk Leiden”

Netherlands 17: The route to Wassenaarse Slag

2017 saw us back in Duinrell for what was our seventh visit. I’ve covered Wassenaarse Slag previously in a post from 2015, though that was the route from The Hague. This time we were heading there from Duinrell, with five families in total, and with seven adults and six kids getting there on bikes. Duinrell, a family and cycling friendly holiday park in The Netherlands

We’ve been going to Duinrell now for quite a few years, since our first visit back in 2012. We have been to The Netherlands on a number of occasions previously, mostly in and around Amsterdam. We came across Duinrell while looking for places to go, we’d previously had a day trip to The Hague and it looked like a nice place to spend a bit more time, so we decided to give it a go.

Netherlands 16: 5 myths about cycling in The Netherlands

As you may have noticed, we’ve experienced cycling in The Netherlands a number of times, during what has pretty much become our yearly visit. In this post, I’ve highlighted some of the myths when it comes to cycling there, based on our experiences.

Netherlands 16: The route to Katwijk aan Zee

This year marks the sixth time we’ve visited Duinrell. We spent the second week of our holiday here, after spending the first week in Vlissingen. Given the number of times we’ve been, it’s surprising that we’ve never been to Katwijk before. We decided to remedy this with a ride there on quite a sunny day.

Netherlands 15: The route to Leiden

Leiden is a university city about 20km north of The Hague and about 10km away from Duinrell by bike. The route from Duinrell is a great example of Dutch bike infrastructure, with most of the route being on segregated cycle paths away from the road. The points at which you have to share the road are generally pretty quiet and you can expect to see very few cars.

Netherlands 15: Around Duinrell

The second week of our recent trip to The Netherlands, we spent at Duinrell. This was actually the fifth time we’ve stayed at Duinrell in one form or another, in the last four year, so as you can probably guess, we’re big fans! We’ve also persuaded a number of friends to go there, who on the whole have loved it.
